  2. Can I just head on over to Cinque Terra now? This was our friends’ first trip when they moved to Italy, and I’ve been dying to go ever since! It looks beautiful! I definitely want to do a cooking class next time we’re in Italy (or France), and wine tasting is always a must! We’re also huge Rick Steves walking tour fans, and I always love how much information he puts in, especially about the big and small things!

  3. You are truly the Cinque Terre expert! I so appreciated your advice when I was in Cinque Terre and you are not mistaken that the best gelato is in Vernazza!! We stayed in an Airbnb in Riomaggiore which was really lovely but I wouldn’t be absolutely desperate to stay there again. You are definitely right to critique Airbnb for how it is crowding the housing market, pushing out locals, which ultimately makes touristy places like the Cinque Terre just become hives of tourists as all the locals have been pushed out! I am going to check out La Toretta now 🙂

  4. The hotel you stayed and how they helped you carry in luggage sounds so wonderful! I’m so jealous of your experience(s) in Cinque Terre. I hated my one trip there, but I adore the pictures I took. It may be enough to encourage me to return. And just in case anyone reading your comments section ison the fence about visiting Cinque Terre because pictures don’t always depict the way a place looks – well, Cinque Terre really is THAT beautiful.

When I last visited I didn’t like pesto, but now I love it, so… And I didn’t know there was regional wine! How fun! I won’t be returning to CT again anytime soon, but I will definitely be chatting with you if I ever go again!

  5. What a fabulous guide – Cinque Terre is very much on my list but I am not a fan of huge crowds so love the tips on avoiding those. Then all my favourite Italian things! Food, wine, views… wonderful. Thanks for linking up with #citytripping

  6. The food looks amazing but I’m all about the scenery and views! When we first started researching our potential travel adventures in Europe, of course we wanted to go Italy, but a friend told us about Cinque Terre and we fell in love with the idea of spending a few nights there instead of doing the city tourist stuff, but that just means we’ll have to return for another trip. I’ve been enjoying your posts to learn more about a place I just heard was amazing and your photos are proof! Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  7. That’s an excellent idea to go out early, then take a break for a few hours and resume your tour later. I also would want to avoid the crowds from the cruise excursions. Additionally, La Torretta looks like the perfect place to stay and an excellent staff can make a difference in the guests’ experience.

  8. Oh my, Cinque Terre keeps popping into my radar over and over again. We were watching a show about it on Monday. I will love to hike around and stay for several days because I do not want to rush the experience. Like you, I think you need to be strategic when visiting popular places. I like the idea of exploring early, resting and going for a second round later. Also, you can visit a less popular spot when the crowds are at its highest point. I have notice crowds tend to congregate around one area. You need to get out of that area during peak times. #WanderfulWednesday

  9. You make Cinque Terre look like a dream! When in Italy eating gelato on a daily basis is an obvious must…. no matter how cold! I went to Italy in the winter last time and that sure didn’t stop me. Didn’t know that Liguria was the home of pesto. I wonder if that is where Liguarian olives are from? Did you try any?

  10. Mmmm you had me at gelato! Cinque Terre looks beautiful and I would love to explore there myself one day. I always wonder if the pictures you see on Instagram are real… can it really look that awesome but your post has shown that yes, it does. Thanks for the awesome insight.

  11. 3x in 3 years!? Lucky you! Our first visit felt so rushed and I hurt my ankle right before going which prevented us from hiking 🙁 This though is the ultimate guide and I hope to use it again! Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard!

  12. Very comprehensive guide to Cinque Terre. Somehow we’ve never managed to get there, although we’ve been in Rome so many times. The food and “gelato” would be the biggest attraction for me if I make it there. #TheWeeklyPostcard

  13. this is my kind of post! I’m craving gelato so bad right now. My sister was just there and I’ve never been and I’m currently dying to go there more than ever

  14. Oh my goodness the food, the views!!! Your recommendations are brilliant, I’ve never been here but it’s always been on my list. Love the sound of the pesto making class! Thanks for sharing #theweeklypostcard

  15. Wow, was there a gelato stop you didn’t find?! Such conviction and a great role model. I think I would take your lead and concentrate on all the gelato shops before I looked at the sites (or regular restaurants).

  16. Your photos are lovely. The talk about gelato and squid ink pasta is making me hungry! I have not been to Cinque Terre yet, but it’s definitely on my list. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard

  17. Sounds like such an amazing trip, and not just what you saw and ate but also even the kindness of the hotel staff. The cooking class in Ligurian cuisine would be on my list, I love taking cooking classes when we travel!
