Thoughts on Thursday – The Winter Blahs

The winter blahs are upon me.  I’m exhausted from the January run through deadlines, the nonsense related to community college and class rank, and just overall nonsense.  I feel like I’m in need of a long winter’s nap, which is impossible because I’ve relocated to the guest room because of less-than-year-old mattress is officially sagging more than an inch.  (That Furniture Saga is TBD.)

All that being said, let’s talk about a few wins:

  • I was asked to co-present on a panel at the College Board Dream Deferred conference next month on Advocating for Black Students in the Competitive Admissions Landscape.  I think that fits nicely into my 101 in 1001 list for presenting on something different.
  • My kid got into a Top 15 law school last night!  This was welcome news since we’re being held for further consideration/sitting on waitlists at a handful of schools right now.  ACCEPTANCE is a GREAT thing.
  • We’ve booked flights for our annual April adventure.  I know that I’m spending Easter weekend at La Toretta, but the rest of the trip is TBD.  I need to spend some time working on that.
  • I managed to get one of our high schools re-ranked and I’ve been furiously working on mid-year reports.  I remain hopeful that we’re going to have some kids get in ED2… which is probably wishful thinking my part, but I want it.

So – despite the wins – I want help getting through this winter exhaustion.  What’s your best cure for the winter blahs?  (I’m pretty sure Stephanie had it right in this post, but let’s hear your thoughts, too.)

Looking forward to 2016P I N I T

One of these kids just got into law school.  <3

  • Mandy - You’ve already got your Easter trip booked?!?! 😳 I’ve been working on mine for the past three weeks, trying to figure out the kinks so that I can book it. But, to be fair, it’s a road trip, so I need to be sure I can make it from point A to point B before booking a flight in one airport and out another.

You must love Italy to be returning again so soon. I’m jealous. (Again.) The cities in the Cinque Terre region are so beautiful.

How do you conquer winter blahs? … I don’t know. Homemade parmesan truffle popcorn and orange flavored cocktails with rum has been my recent go-to. Yum.ReplyCancel

  • Betsy - Isn’t so much fun once you actually start booking!! We did the hotel & flights for a big family Texas trip in March and I’m getting ready to book for a July 4th Charleston trip. Not quite as exotic as Italy but definitely going to cross a couple of cities off my USA bucket list : DReplyCancel

  • Ellen from Ask Away Blog - I have the winter blahs too! and I just started watching This is Us and that sooo doesn’t help lol!ReplyCancel

  • Ashley- The Wandering Weekenders - I’m right there with you with having the winter blues! I started back to work during the busiest time of the year and it’s crazy! But I think the best way to combat them is to work on planning a fun trip! That way you have something to look forward to!ReplyCancel

  • Bri @ My Life As - I am so ready for winter to be over. I’ve definitely got the winter blahs! Yay for having a trip to look forward to though! I need to set one of those up…ReplyCancel

Winter blahs are miserable; I second the trip planning suggestion and I’ll also throw in baking. Personally I find it therapeutic although I recognise not everyone feels the same!ReplyCancel
