Honeymoon Style Wish List
About two weeks ago, our world changed considerably when we were given the opportunity to serve seven high schools through our non-profit organization. While it felt like the greatest gift in the world (and it is!), it also required both Tom and I to do some serious soul searching on how we would handle our program size doubling two weeks before school starting.
When Tom suggested that we cancel our two-week European honeymoon within a few hours of getting this great news, I was furious, frustrated, and angry. I’ve been WAITING for this trip. I’ve been looking forward to it. Dangit, I WANTED to go on this trip and nothing was going to stop me. I stayed firm until I started talking to the principals who chose me. And, I realized that they were counting on me.
I stayed quiet as I pondered what to do. Tom and I drove out to my parents’ house one night, and I cornered my stepdad and I asked him what I should do. I told him about my opportunity, my conversations, and my dilemma. He stayed quiet, too. Finally, he told me he had never seen me so excited about anything as I was when I told him what the principals said to me. He thought I was looking for validation for a decision that I knew was already made in my heart. I couldn’t hire people, be gone for at least 2.5 weeks, and HOPE that everything worked out.
Enter the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay Mini-Moon
So, with a heavy heart, I offered to cancel the trip that I had cried about and fought for a few days earlier. I did concede that it was important to me that we do SOMETHING. Tom offered anything I wanted that was a “reasonable” distance, and so… instead of Europe, we’re going back to Half Moon Bay for a mini-moon, with the expectation that we’ll go to Europe next year. It wasn’t a fun decision to make… but I think we’re doing the right, grown-up thing. There’s something to be said for that, I suppose!
My goal is to have an incredibly relaxing few days, lounging around the resort. Last year, we did lots of college hopping, sightseeing in San Francisco, and driving down to Monterey and Pebble Beach. This year, I just want to relax, rest, and take it easy at the resort. That means I need adorable, resort friendly, comfy clothes, right? Right…. So here’s my adorable honeymoon style wish list!
What I’m Wearing on Our Honeymoon to Half Moon Bay
1. The Kate Spade Chandler Romper – that’s right – it’s a romper. ( actually have this black and the polka dot because I love it so much.) The polka dots make it fun, the Ray Ban sunnies make it cool. And, it’s just the right amount of chic for the direct flight from Dallas to San Francisco and resort arrival!
2. Since we’ll be arriving in the late afternoon, I expect I’ll need some sleeves to watch the sunset. I think the scallops on those shorts are TO DIE FOR, too. Perfect lounging outfit
3. Slouchy sweaters and leggings are a must for those cold ocean breezes! Even in September, the wind off the bay can be pretty cool… these are the perfect snuggling outfits!
4. This little outfit screams adorable newlywed to me… I think it’s the light blue, the pearls, and the white bow. LOVE everything about this!
5. Again, evenings are cool, so a scarf and flat boots will keep me warm when we’re roasting marshmellows and listening to the bagpipes in the evening!
6. Dallas is going to be hot. Flying home prepared for the heat is the absolute way to go.
7. This adorable little white dress is perfect for a fancy night out on the town if we decide to go out and celebrate our newly-wed bliss!
Sounds like your step-dad is WISE!!
(And yes, I would grieve for not getting to go to Europe yet.)
And I’m so excited for you on your upcoming marriage!!
And congratulations on getting to serve all those high schools. Wow. Elizabeth and I were talking about you yesterday – and all the good you’re doing for all those graduates. Wow.
I’m so proud to know you!
And I love it when you blog!

Oh, LOVE THE WISHLIST!
What?! You realize you’ll never get him to Europe now right? I’m mad at you two. Like really mad.
